here we go...AGAIN!

I suppose the first order of business would be to wish you a MARVELOUS New Year. I, for one, am greatly relieved that 2017 is over. I don't suppose I have to get into all that again, right? So then....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Now that we got that out of the way, I want to share something with you. You see, every year on the first day of the new year, I do a full-blown desk cleaning. That is to say, I go through my three-tiered file drawers and toss what needs tossing, wipe everything on the desk down, dust and rearrange, and finish with that oh-so satisfying sigh of accomplishment. Not sure when this little tradition began but don't much care. It makes me happy to do it, and more often than not I find a few forgotten treasures along the way.

DELICIOUS!

The following is the result of said cleaning. I can't remember who sent it to me, but I'm pretty sure it was mailed inside a card because it has those folds that would occur if a legal sized piece of paper was put inside a greeting card. So, to whomever sent it to me, I thank you (again!). It's so lovely to be reminded that there are people in my world who care enough to send me stuff like this.

Lest I digress any further...

The piece is titled "Sunscreen Speech"; it was written by the Chicago Tribune's Mary Schmich and then the director/writer/producer, Baz Luhrmann did a take-off. It is also important to note that even though many credit Mr. Luhrmann with authoring the piece, he properly credited Ms. Schmich as the original author. (Gee! Imagine that! A man of integrity!)

Anywayz....it goes like this:

"Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of '97...Wear sunscreen.

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me...in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You're not as fat as you imagine.

Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4PM on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing every day that scares you.

Sing.

Don't be reckless with other people's hearts; don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss.

Don't waste your time on jealousy. Sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind...the race is long and in the end it's only with yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch.

Don't feel guilty if you don't know what to do with your life...the most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives; some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees. You'll miss them when they're gone.

Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the Funky Chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary. Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance. So are everybody else's.

Enjoy your body, use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it or what other people think of it. It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.

Dance...even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines; they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents; you'll never know when they'll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography in lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths; prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess too much with your hair or by the time it's 40, it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia; dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts, and recycling it for more than it's worth.

But...trust me on the sunscreen."

{PHEW!}

Here, on this the twenty-seventh day of the year, as we wind down to yet another year ending, I can't help but feel...relieved. Oh, how happy I shall be when this horrid year is over. Me thinks it has been tough for many on our Planet. Not just here in the United States, but all 'round the world. There have been so many dreadful happenings. AND rather than go through that "list", let us simply say,

"THANK THE GODS IT'S OVER!" and move on to the business of BETTER.

Many of you make your lists of New Year's Resolutions, with, I am sure, great hope of accomplishing those things. For those of you who've been here for any length of time, you know I am not one who does ("resolutions"). I've never found them to be anything more than lies I told myself. For every one I didn't accomplish, I always felt badly for my lack of willpower or consistency or determination.

UNTIL...

I realized that I'm just not a person who fares well under such rigid rules. I am, instead, the kind who envisions whatever it is I would like to modify/add/remove from my world. One step at a time. One day at a time. Works for me. Without all the guilt!

To that end, I thought it might be a good time to pose a few seeds for your new year too.

WHAT IF...

You were to focus on what makes you happy and leave misery for those who seem to enjoy it.

You were to begin each and every day with a simple prayer of gratitude for all the many JOYS that are your world.

You were just not so damned hard on yourself. YOU are a GIFT. Treat yourSELF as one.

WHAT IF...

You simply apply LOVE to all your days.

How grand a year it will be then, yes?

Wishing each of you a splendid, joyful, merry, loving, satisfying, creative, MARVELOUS

NEW YEAR!

Can You SEE It?

A new year is upon us. And, for those of you who've been here for any length of time, you already know how I feel about "resolutions". I've given you every kind of angle from which to see, and then decide if you're going to set yourself up, or find a different way to march onward into your sparkly new year.

{For your convenience, here are a few of my past meanderings on the topic:

"A Bucket List...Instead"

"And So It Begins"

"First Tuesday"

...and if you want more, you can scroll down to the bottom of the page, click on the "Blog Archives" button, and search for yourself. But this really ought to paint the picture...}

Anywayz....

I thought that this year, instead of repeating myself yet again, I would, instead, offer up this beautifully said sentiment by the glorious Paramahansa Yogananda. He is one of my very favorite "gurus" and I have, for many years, kept his desk calendar beside me to begin each day with his splendid perspectives (not to mention some stunning photography!) Oh...and now, another bonus: my dear and talented friend, Ken Archer, has, for the past TWO years, had his photos included in these beautiful calendars. He has, in all his generous Spirit, sent me one for Christmas these past two years. How cool is that?! But...I digress (some things never change!)

On the very first page of this very new year, this is the thought that Paramahansa shares:

"Behold,, through the gates of the New Year, the distant variegated decorations of future achievements glimmering at you and daringly luring you to give pursuit."

I'm quite certain I couldn't have said it better myself.

So then...can you SEE what you want? Can you close your eyes and be there? Is it so important to you that you dwell on it, every single day, to the point of obsession? How do you feel when you see it? Do.You.BELIEVE?

I have seen, with my own Life, that these are the questions that bring the most fruitful results. When I set myself up in this way, I am, more often than not, rewarded with the realization of these dreams. In other words: it works. For ME. Of course, you're not me and I'm not you and nobody can tell you what's going to work. All I know is: once I began to look at my "new year" through these eyes, I also began to see my dreams fulfilled. It is a grand and glorious way to begin.

Your choice.

Wishing you joyful, fulfilling, glorious pursuits for this shiny new year!

The Date Is Unimportant...

Today is December thirtieth, in the year two thousand fifteen. (it's kinda weird typing out numbers like that. Fun. But weird. A new 'thang' I'm giving a go. More on that. Another time.) With less than twenty-nine hours left in this year, I'm guessing that lots of folks are planning activities for New Year's Eve. Or not. Maybe folks are basking in quiet reflection over the year's events. Or thinking how happy they are that it's almost over. Maybe, for those who have chosen solitude, there isn't much ado at all about the impending year's end. Whatever the case may be...one thing is certain: Magick abounds today, as it did yesterday, as it shall tomorrow. Doesn't really matter what the date is. Nor the circumstances you find yourself in. All that matters is that you remember a few things, and carry them with you all day, every day, without question or doubt.

Those few things are:

  • Magick abounds
  • YOU are the Magick
  • All that really matters is NOW
  • Trust in your Magick
  • {said another way: Trust in YOU}

  • That's pretty much it. We Humans like to make a big deal about "dates". We fuss over the details because it's Christmas or New Year's Day or your birthday or any number of calendar holidays. But in truth, every day is a holiday. Because the word itself, "holiday", is a bastardized version of "holy days". In my world, every day I awaken, realize I'm actually alive, have oxygen flowing through my lungs and blood running through my veins and food waiting to be eaten and this furry fluff of a dawg to snuggle with, every single one of those days is holy.

What else is there to know?

    Happy New Year, my Lovelies.

May each new day bring new ways for you to live your Magick.

    Carry on!

    2012...and here we go again!

To all of you out there who visit this little blurb ~

I wish you a splendid New Year. I wish you all things good and joyful. I wish you perfect health, grand adventures and all that you may want in great abundance. Most of all, I wish you the right that is yours:

    JOY.

May you walk through each day remembering that joy is a CHOICE....and choose to live that joy every moment of your beautiful life.

    Go well.

    My heart ~

on this, the eve of a new year....

It's hard to believe another year has been spent. But here we are...on this last day of 2010. I suppose there are many who take time to look 'back' and re-live what they've done (or not done!) over the past 12 months. Many sit with pen in hand, 'resolving' to make changes. Still others wonder, as I am, where the heck the year went! In all, I'd say it is a time for reflection and eagerness. Another trip 'round the sun that we might grow more of who we really are.

Every year, on this day, I break out my new calendar and mark the dates that are important to me. Birthdays, anniversaries, passings, break-throughs; any date that holds significance for me that I wish to continue to remember. While I mark those dates on my new calendar, I take my time and let the memories roll. I do not sit in sadness; rather, I remember with fondness and great love all the many blessings that I have lived over the past 12 months. It is not a rueful time; it is a joyous time. So much to be grateful for. So much to look forward to. So much love!

And so, on this, my last post of 2010, I bid you all a final suggestion:

Be grateful. Hold the love in your heart and let it wash through you. Look not at the sorrows you may have lived, but instead look at how well you have grown. Look at how much more you are now. Feel that gratitude deep in your bones. And, most of all, remember that with each new day we have the opportunity to find even more....more love, more joy, more abundance, more friendship, more of ourselves.

Be eager about your next trip 'round the sun! Be ever-hopeful for those things that you most desire to come to you.. They will. All you must do is ALLOW THEM TO COME!

It is with great fondness and deepest appreciation that I close this chapter of my life. And YOU have everything to do with that ever-growing gratitude!

I wish you all that you dream of. I wish you great love and happy moments. I wish you exquisite health and loads of fun. I wish you JOY!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!
