Serendipity?

How often do you start out looking for something only to end up with something entirely out of the realm of your initial search? Have you ever had what some call "a happy accident"? Do you suppose that those things are a kind of Cosmic joke? Or maybe it's your soul's way of telling you to lighten up and enjoy the ride.

Regardless of how you look at it, Serendipity is plain ol' FUN. It's fun to get in your car, head to the grocery store, stop along the way to grab a coffee, and run into an old lover you've been thinking about for the past five months. It's fun to walk into a book store in search of that NY Times bestseller and stumble over a pile of books that haven't yet been put on a shelf, look down at the title and realize it's the absolute perfect gift for your favorite niece. Or when you make up your mind that you're going to buy a new car and come home with a horse instead. Okay, that might be a stretch, but you get the point.

Sometimes, it's more about relaxing into whatever it is the gods are tossing into your path than having the perfect plan. Other times it's about not having a plan at all. And when that super something shows up, you get to feel the glee of a small child that just discovered butterflies. You clap your hands and do a little dance, laughing like a loon while you wipe the tears from your happy face. That is how Serendipity feels.

Even those who lean toward that whole balance thing cannot dispute the joy that comes from finding a treasure they weren't looking for. Aren't those the best kind? The ones you didn't even know you wanted until they show up? The ones that make you smack your forehead and ask, "Why didn't I think of that?" Serendipity is all kinds of joy rolled into a giant ball of fuzzy with dark sunglasses and a name like Bruzer.

So the next time you get all riled up over the details, stop for a moment and think about this:

What if I just let go the reins and let it come to me?
